Catla Fish Curry

Ingredients :-


For Marinating :-

500 g. / ½ kg Catla fish (pref. large cut, thoroughly washed & patted dry)

½ tsp Salt

½ tsp Turmeric Powder

1 tbsp. Mustard oil

½ tsp Red Chilli Powder


For frying :-

100 ml Mustard oil

1 large Onion (thinly sliced)

Marinated fish


For the Gravy :-

Leftover oil in kadai

3 Red Chilli (whole & dried)

2 Bay Leaf

3-4 Green Cardamom(whole)

3-4 Cloves (whole)

½ inch Cinnamon

5 Onion, med-sized (2 roughly chopped + 3 thinly sliced)

2 small piece of Ginger about ½ inch, peeled

2 Tomatoes, med-sized (finely chopped)

2 tsp. Red Chilli Powder

1.5 tsp. Turmeric Powder

1 tsp. Cumin/Jeera Powder

½ tbsp. Coriander/Dhania powder

Salt to taste

1 tsp Sugar

2.5 cups/600 ml Hot Water

2 Green Chilli (slit lengthwise)

2 tbsp. fresh coriander, chopped

Fish Tikka Gravy


Ingredients for Marinating :-

½ kg /500 g / 1.1 pound Basa Fish (boneless cubes, washed and patted dry)

2 tsp Fresh Lime Juice

½ tsp Turmeric Powder

½ tsp Red Chilli Powder

½ tsp Salt

2 tsp Veg Oil


Ingredients :-

For Wet Masala Paste :-

2 tbsp./30 ml Veg Oil

3 Red Chilli (dried and whole) OR to taste

6 Cloves

2 Green Cardamom

1 inch Cinnamon Stick

8-10 Black Peppercorns

1.5 tsp Cumin Seeds

8-10 Garlic Cloves (peeled)

1 inch Ginger (peeled & roughly chopped)

10-12 Cashew Nuts

4 Onion, med-sized (roughly sliced)


For Shallow Frying :-

2 tbsp./30 ml Veg Oil


For Curry :-

2 tbsp./30 ml Veg Oil

2 Bay Leaf

3 Tomatoes, med-sized (grinded to Purée)

1 tsp Turmeric Powder

1.5 tsp Red Chilli Powder

1 tsp Cumin Powder

Salt to taste

⅛ tsp Nutmeg Powder

1.5 tsp Coriander Powder

1 +¼ cup/300 ml Hot Water

3-4 Sprigs/1 tbsp. Fresh Coriander (finely chopped for garnishing)

Ingredients :-

For marinating :-


½ kg/500g./1.1 lb Rohu Fish (washed & patted dry)

1 tbsp. Garlic, minced

1 tsp. Turmeric Powder

½ tsp. Salt

1 tsp. Red Chilli Powder

2 tsp. Veg/Mustard Oil


For frying :-

100 ml. Veg/Mustard Oil


For the Gravy :-

1 tsp Cumin Seeds

3 Onion, med sized (roughly sliced)

2 Tomatoes, med sized (roughly sliced)

1 tsp Cumin Powder

1 tsp Red Chilli Powder

1 tsp Coriander Powder

Salt to taste

2 Green Chilli (slit lengthwise - optional)

2 cups /450 ml Water
